Pupil Leadership
At Abbey View we believe in the importance of having a pupil lead culture where pupils take on key leadership roles. We feel that the pupils should be at the heart of everything we do and this starts with giving them a voice and enabling them to have a tangible impact on their environment.
We feel that pupils should be given the opportunity to lead an initiative or hold a position of responsibility that impacts the academy as a whole, so we offer a wide range of leadership roles in teams.
Each role has a link teacher who works closely with the pupils to develop new projects, arrange events and help the children to contribute to the voice and vision of the academy.
There are a number of ways that children at Abbey View can get involved in pupil leadership.
Head Boy and Head Girl
The head boy and head girl along with their deputies are responsible for:
- supporting the academy at events (such as parents evening, new parents meetings, parent workshops, helping out with productions or extra-curricular events)
- Speaking publicly at the above events if required
- Contributing to the effective running of the academy, as directed by any staff member
- Helping to ensure that the academy is a safe and secure place for all students
- Leading and supporting others with their roles
- Sharing and representing students’ ideas with the Senior Leadership Team

Prefects
Prefects are selected students from our Year 6 class. The role of a Prefect is a highly respected and very important one. Not only do the younger students in the academy look to the Prefects as role models but they are also students who are there to help and support them in many different aspects of their academy life.

Academy Council
The Academy Council is the ‘voice of all the children at Abbey View Primary Academy!’
At the Academy council we, the children help make decisions on how to make our Academy an even better place to be. We discuss our ideas at our weekly meetings and then start working on changing things. We have to ensure we are good role models in the Academy, good listeners when sharing ideas and confident speakers when speaking to our classes and in our meetings.
The Academy Council also helps organise many exciting Academy events such as:
- Macmillan Coffee Morning
- Children In Need
- Christmas Jumper Day
- Red Nose Day
- Eid Party
We have been very busy thinking of creative ideas and competitions to help celebrate these fantastic events!

Eco Warriors
Eco-Schools is a simple, seven-step framework that guides, empowers and motivates pupils to drive change and improve environmental awareness in their school, local community and beyond.
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a coveted Green Flag with Distinction.
This is international accreditation that recognises our amazing work in making our Academy more environmentally friendly and raising eco-awareness in fellow pupils.
Pupils worked together to conduct an environmental review, assessing how eco-friendly our school is. They reviewed everything from the school’s recycling practices, to energy usage, to how environmental themes are covered in classrooms. Building on their findings, the pupils planned a year of activities that would contribute towards their green-credentials.
The committee connected their work to 3 Eco-Schools topics: Litter, Marine Life and Healthy Living. Activities included arranging a whole school litter pick, collecting bottle tops and began plans for a school garden.
We hope to maintain our Eco-Schools status with our new Eco-Warriors!
