Year 1

Hello and a very warm welcome to Year 1!

Year 1 is an exciting year where children will grow in confidence, independence and knowledge through exciting curricular topics and trips

At the beginning of the year, we adopt a Continuous Provision approach to the children’s learning. Continuous Provision is allowing children to access their own learning through ‘play’ or activities, which are in place stemmed from the children’s interests or aspects from topics being taught. We call this time ‘Discovery’. Alongside Discovery, we cover topics such as Famous People in History, twists on traditional tales in English, learning Harvest songs in Music and taking part in Forest School.

All children are supported within class by their teacher and teaching assistants, who inspire and motivate the children to achieve their goals and ambitions. We set high expectations for the children to achieve their full potential and installing our Academy motto of ‘Learning today, Leading tomorrow’.

We also acknowledge the importance of fostering a close school/home partnership, where parents are actively involved in their child’s learning, therefore look forward to embarking on this journey with you.

It is important to us that we create a parent/teacher collaboration, whereby parents and carers are involved in their child’s learning, supporting them on their academic journey.
